Loop (2019)
Loop explores the Baroque gesture as a vehicle for narrating the unfixed and fragile nature of memory. The Baroque’s obsession with the representation of movement, anamorphosis (the distortion of the figure), and the positioning of the audience as witness, all congruent with the way memory is negotiated in our hyper-mediated world. In bringing together a series of works within this exhibition, Giles is creating a visual sensorium of recollection—the gnawing and displaced fragments of remembrances.
This exhibition was shown at the Webb Gallery, Brisbane, 2-13 April 2019.
